U14 Individual Tournaments At R/repton And Highgate
19/01/22: Sunday saw the final events of the EFA's new Junior Individual series, with 90 U14 pupils from 11 different schools taking part at two different venues - R/repton and Highgate.
Howard Wiseman and Dominique Redmond ran the Highgate tournament, which featured 35 pupils from St.Olave's, Highgate, QEB, Mill Hill, Belmont and Burford all taking part in the usual mix-up round robin format, producing several rounds of matches with everyone playing with a new partner and a new set of opposition each time. At the same time, just over a hundred miles further north, Charlotta Cooley was running a similar competition on the twelve courts at R/repton, with 55 pupils taking part from R/repton, Shrewsbury, Ipswich, KES Birmingham and Uppingham.
These tournaments have been a fantastic success this year and we will look to build on them next season, hopefully involving an even wider range of schools and players to take part. The schools' focus now switches to the three pair team tournaments and the n/national schools' championships programme through the rest of this term, culminating in the main championships week at Eton at the end of March.
