3rd/4th
M.Briscoe & H.Asquith beat R.Wood & F.Butler 2-0 (12-9, 14-11)
The tournament has been dominated by these two pairs in recent years having faced each other in five of the last six seasons (a run only interrupted by maternity leave) and the two semi-finals proved that the gap between them and the rest is as large as ever.
The Oxford pairing of Rachel Wood & Freya Butler had qualified for the last four in fine style in the qualifying day back in February and gave their all against defending champions Karen Hird & Charlotta Cooley, but were unable to make much of an impression on the top seeds, who won the set piece battle decisively and dominated the majority of the rallies to qualify for the final for the loss of only two points.
Their perennial rivals Emily Scoones & Ashley Lumbard were pushed harder by third seeds Harry Asquith & Marjolaine Briscoe, but the extra precision and consistency of Ashley & Emily, again along with a superior set piece, meant that Harry & Marj were never able apply enough pressure to really discomfort their opponents.
The two defeated pairs also played a very Oxford-flavoured 3rd/4th match, which was narrowly won by Harry & Marj.
The final will take place at Stowe School on Saturday 1st April at 2:30pm. Spectators are welcome; anyone intending to come along should let us know so that the school know who to expect.
