The Eton Fives Association Tackling Youth Inactivity And Holiday Hunger In Kensington & Chelsea
Stefan Ferencz reports:
19/07/21: Families and children in Kensington & Chelsea are set to benefit from a series of free multi-sports and healthy eating activities delivered by the Eton Fives Association (EFA).
Starting August 2nd, the “Summer of Sport at Westway” project will address barriers to sport participation that have been exacerbated by Covid-19 restrictions, and which have recently prevented local children from exercising and maintaining recommended physical activity.
Led by the EFA London Regional Organiser, Mike Till, the project will give local children aged 8-16 the opportunity to try out a variety of free activities including Eton Fives, Wallball, Football and Basketball. In addition, participants will receive free lunch packs, with coaching staff promoting messages of healthy eating so that more local children develop a strong understanding of how nutrition complements a healthy and active lifestyle.
Alex Knight, Head of Development at the EFA, said: “The Westway Sports and Fitness Centre is a vital community hub, and a key partner in efforts to support local residents and rebuild the community in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy. The EFA is incredibly grateful for the support it has received from local funders and partners, which will enable it to use the power of sport and physical activity to benefit some of the most deprived families and children in Kensington & Chelsea”.
The Eton Fives Association would like to thank The Kensington + Chelsea Foundation, Kusuma Trust, John Lyon’s Charity and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for their generous support.
