01/11/20: The first round of the Alan Barber Cup is now almost complete, with wins for the Old Salopians and Old Citizens.
Despite the difficult circumstances, this year's Alan Barber Cup has continued to throw up some good matches and competitive Fives. The Old Salopians are traditional heavy hitters in this competition and had an easy first round win against an under strength Barbarians team at Eton, with some of the less experienced members of the Barbarians team gaining valuable exposure to top level Fives.
The Old Citizens - featuring a mix of players who learned on the old school courts, which were knocked down over 30 years ago and players who have learned their Fives more recently - scored an impressive away win at Ipswich, much to the delight of team captain and Fives legend John Reynolds, who rolled back the years to win the decisive first pair match alongside Cambridge captain Nick Choustikov.
