Howard Wiseman reports:
27/01/20: Seven teams entered the REFCA under 14 team event at Eton yesterday and it was fantastic to see Charterhouse enter this event for the first time.
The standard was very high and all matches were competitive. There were seven rounds which enabled all the teams to play each other with one set matches to 15 points. Berkhamsted’s first team were particularly strong, but they did drop a number of points across the day especially at third pair. As a result St.Olave's school won the trophy having only dropped two points, both at the hands of Berkhamsted 1. Highgate, Ipswich and second teams from Berkhamsted and St.Olave’s, ensured that this was an action-packed and busy long-afternoon of fives. At the same time the under 15 individual took place. 22 players, all of a high standard, enjoyed a feast of a fives , playing seven rounds with different partnerships in every match. Eventually, two Highgate pupils and two Olavians pupils won Their way through to the final. The Mill Hillians and Ipswichians were unlucky not to have players in the final: several of their players achieved high scores. The single Final was won 12-9 by Catherine from Highgate and Franklin from St.Olave’s. They competed against another pair also from those two schools, Ethan and Sasha.
