National Masters Championship

In an event contested by a record-breaking five pairs, the Masters' Championship was won by John East and Martin Wilkinson, who emerged as champions after a gruelling round-robin series.

They were the clear winners, never conceding more than three points in any individual game; and, while the following places were more closely contested, the five-times champions Bernard Atkinson and David Bawtree were runners-up.
