2014 Kinnaird Cup Semi-Finals: Dunbar/Cooley and Toop/Wiseman into the final

Mark Williams reports:

T.Dunbar & S.Cooley (1) beat H.Wiseman & E.Taylor (5) 3-0 (12-7, 12-6, 12-5)

J.Toop & M.Wiseman (3) beat P.Dunbar & G.Campbell (2) 3-0 (12-11, 12-4, 12-8)

Both of this year's Kinnaird Cup semi-finals were won in three games, but both were interesting matches.

Top seeds and defending champions Tom Dunbar and Seb Cooley were always in control of their match, but Howard Wiseman and Ed Taylor made them fight all the way gaining a significant number of points in each game.

In the other semi-final, Pete Dunbar and George Campbell sprang from the traps to establish a 9-3 lead in the first game, but then missed several opportunities to finish it off, and as James Toop and Matt Wiseman gained in confidence they caught up at 9-9. The score proceeded to 11-11 with both sides on step before the Olavians won a tight and crucial game 12-11. The demoralising effect of this on Dunbar and Campbell took its inevitable toll in the second game which was won easily 12-4 to establish a 2-0 advantage. The third game was a much closer affair and the scores were level at 8-8 before Toop and Wiseman pulled away to win the game 12-8. This was a highly significant win for the number 3 seeds, and we look forward to a tantalisingly well matched final in a fortnight.
