19/10/.20: The Old Wulfrunians became the second side to book their passage into the quarter-finals of the 2020/21 Alan Barber Cup with a 3-0 win over Lancing at Mill Hill yesterday.

Both teams are recent semi-finalists in this competition so a close match was anticipated. The on court action didn't disappoint as Lancing fought back after a strong start from the Midlands side, who just managed to turn the tide back in their favour in time to book their slot in the last eight.

The Wulfrunian youngsters Tom Husselbee & Matt Pritchard won comfortably at third pair to put their side in the lead; with the OWs 2-0 up in of both of the first two pairs, it looked almost all over but Alex Abrahams & Tom Betts took games three and four to level 2-2 at second pair against Mark Yates & David Jones whilc Lancing first pair George Campbell & Ashley Lumbard were following suit, winning the third and going 9-3 up in the fourth at first pair against Sid Simmons & Chris Austin.

That was as close as Lancing got, however, as Chris & Sid clawed back their fourth game deficit to win the fourth 15-12 and Mark & David recovered their poise to win their fifth game by the same margin, taking the Wulfunians through to a quarter-final match up against defending champions the Old Olavians.
