Fives at Merchant Taylors’: The Last Season and Lost Court
Little is known about Eton fives at MTs: the only photograph of a fives court is a distant aerial photograph which shows a single court on the outside of a building and shows three walls, which would point to it being Eton fives. By the 1950s this appears to have been the only court, though there may once have been more.
In the school magazine for December 1955 there is a reference to a successful season with 13 matches being played. Eight were won including home and away matches against Stoneyhurst. There is also a reference in this article to the “Eton fives court”. This seems to have been the last season in which fives was played as the court was then demolished.
