In 1992, the Old Wulfrunians won the Alan Barber Cup for the first and only time, with a team featuring that season's Kinnaird Cup winners Mark Moore and Gary Baker. They won that final against the Old Cholmeleians, who, in an echo of the Old Olavians current dominance, had not been beaten in the competition since 1976.
Twenty years later and the two clubs have slipped down the Barber Cup pecking order, with both unseeded this year, but they met again at Wolverhampton at the weekend and it was once again the Old Wulfrunians who ran out winners, taking both the top two pairs in four games and winning the third by default. They now go forward to another home match in the next round against the winner of the Old Carthusians vs Old Millhillians tie. Elsewhere, the Old Olavians were up against the Old Citizens at Highgate and cruised into the second round where the Ipswichians lie in wait after a walkover against the Stoics.
