24/01/22: The quarter-finals of the Alan Barber Cup have now all been played, leaving just four teams to battle it out in the semis at Eton next weekend.
The four top-seeded teams have all made it through, producing a repeat of last season's semi-final draw.
The Barbarians made their first appearance in the quarter-finals this year but were without Noah Caplin for their match against last year's runners-up the Old Westminsters. Captain Chris Lumbard and Westway's Adam Field got a win for the Barbarians at third pair but the Westminster top order was too strong and they made it through comfortably 2-1. They will be taking on the Old Salopians, who came through comfortably against a Covid-hit Lancing team.
The other semi-final will see top seeds and defending champions the Old Olavians taking on the Old Cholmeleians, who won an exciting match against a young Harrovian team (minus the injured Tom Dunbar) at Highgate yesterday, veterans Guy Chapman & Niifio Addy rolling back the years to win the decisive third pair match. As always, the Olavians will be the team to beat, though, after their comfortable quarter-final win over Mill Hill.
The semi-finals will take place at Eton next Sunday (30th January) at 2:30pm.
